Note:  The flag ranked 62nd out of 72 in a survey on state, provincial, and territorial flag design conducted by the North American Vexillological Association in 2001.  The flag designs of only 10 states ranked lower.

The Oregonian newspaper sponsored an effort in late 2008 and early 2009 to redesign the flag.  It received around 2,500 entries, and asked readers to vote among the best 10.  While a winner was declared, the governor and legislature were not interested in any change.
